American Skins

At first I was going to say, "This had better be good, because they have a lot to live up to." Then I realized that it looks like the same exact storyline as the first season of British Skins. Womp womp.

I know it's a show for teenagers, but if anyone is ever looking for anything to watch instantly on Netflix, Skins is where it's at.

Worth watching for a charming post-About a Boy, pre-A Single Man Nicholas Hoult, great soundtracks, gorgeous Effy, teen drama, amazing outfits, and teen drama. Also, teen drama.

I will probably give this MTV version a shot, but I'm not feeling optimistic.

Mildred Pierce

I am really looking forward to the HBO adaptation of Mildred Pierce.

Jason Schwartzman, I love you.

Edited to add: Don't forget that Schwartzman's series, Bored to Death, is back for season 2!

Mad Men...gives me the shivers.

Season 4 Teaser. I. Can't. Wait.

I'm totally in to...

Hellooooo, Michael Caine.

  • How to Make It in America The main character is a cute guy with good style who wants to make clothes. Need I say more? OK. The soundtrack is all over the place, in a good way. Download a mixtape inspired by the show here (check out the remix of Phoenix's "Rome" featuring Devendra Banhart).
  • Southern Flourish, the latest digital magazine for you to swoon over, has premiered. My favorite Charleston blogger, Olivia, has two articles in the mag.

How To Make It In America

Have you seen it yet?

If you want to see the first episode of the newest show by the creators of Entourage (i.e. Mark "Marky Mark" Wahlberg), you can watch it free here.

Starring Bryan Greenberg and featuring Shannyn Sossamon (Where has she been?), Kid Cudi, and Lake Bell, obviously this show is not short on eye candy.

I think it has serious potential.

I've been MIA.

Hello, readers.

I've been MIA lately because, frankly, I haven't had much to say. My life has been consumed with counting down the days until Skins Season 4 premieres (13!):

I've been listening to "Cosmic Love" by Florence + The Machine pretty constantly:

I've been drinking a lot (a LOT) of home-juiced fruit and vegetable juices:
This is Granny Smith apple, golden beet, and dandelion greens juice.

Today at work I pondered the mysterious appearance of a Japanese paper wall clock in my cubicle:

There is no battery in it.

I saw Up in the Air yesterday, which I enjoyed, but I felt like I needed a hug afterward.

A lot of well-known actors have cameos in this film, like Zach Galifinakis and that guy from one of the Law & Order shows.

I'm also enjoying:
* "Two Gentlemen of Lebowski"--The story of The Big Lebowski written in the style of Shakespeare.

* Found Magazine's Find of the Day.

Happy Weekend!

A bulleted list tied together by the fact that I like and/or am interested in whatever the points contain.

  • I spent a possibly embarrassing amount of time reading about cants on Wikipedia. A cant is a "secret language used only by members of a group, often used to conceal the meaning from those outside the group." How cool is that.
  • Baggu is offering a one-day 50% discount on their x3 set through Lucky magazine's site.
  • As if I didn't already have the travel bug, this is making the itch to leave the continent worse.
  • I wouldn't change a single thing in this townhouse's decor. Not a single thing. OK, maybe I'd take down the antlers over the bathtub, but that's it. I love it.
  • I just need season four of Skins to be on now.
  • "Onion" by Sean Hayes is quaveringly lovely.
  • It might be meant for weddings, but I'd wear this everywhere, all the time.
  • ohmygoodness...is this person real? So romantic.

Classic '60s style.

It's been days since I've seen An Education, and I still can't stop daydreaming about the styling of the movie. The clothes were all fitted printed sheaths with gorgeous swing coats, and the outfits are all accessorized with little hats and gloves and Ray-Bans. And the make-up--nude lips and copious amounts of liquid eyeliner, faux lashes, and hairspray.

Now if only Season 4 of Mad Men would start right now to help me fuel my obsession...

Modern Family

Modern Family is so stinking funny, I can't even handle it. My favorite character is Manny. He's strong, yet sensitive. He's a great listener and is in touch with his roots.

Meet the family:

Does anyone else watch this show? I am hooked.

I am so dorked out about this.

Emma...the BBC mini-series with Romola Garai, Johnny Lee Miller, Michael Gambon

Friday, August 14, 2009

It's Friday again, you guys.

  • I took the Mad Men quiz. Is it any surprise that I got 15/15?
  • I'm thinking of all the million ways I can wear my new jeans. Annnnd my new dress. I swear, I'm really done shopping now. At least for this week.
  • I'm loving the song that Ben Vernon (of Bon Iver fame) has done with his new side project, Volcano Choir.
  • This tea has been saving my life lately. And it's delicious.
  • The Jivamukti yoga studio here in Charleston has four downloadable audio classes for you to enjoy. They're free, but they encourage you to donate to great causes.
  • I don't like using plastic bottles, so I've been refilling an old Perrier bottle with regular water. I think the green glass adds an element of class to my cubicle.

What things are really getting you going today?

Going Mad Men crazy.

I might as well just start a blog dedicated to Mad Men, because I'm completely obsessed.

Here's some of what we can anticipate for Season 3:

Also, did you know that you can "Mad Men Yourself"?

Here's me (I know, the resemblance is striking.):

Also, Jon Hamm (aka Don Draper) plays Rummikub. My life is complete.

Bored to Death

1. Jason Schwartzman
2. Parker Posey
3. Kristen Wiig
4. Zach Galifianakis

Bored to Death is an upcoming (in September) comedy series about a struggling writer (Schwartzman) dealing with his post-breakup life in Brooklyn by becoming a private detective--using his favorite detective novels as guides. I love you HBO.

A Black & White Summer

Also, things I'm loving today: * The rainstorm that's currently happening outside (natural air-conditioning!)
* Sunburn home remedies (I currently smell like apple cider vinegar)
* Roasting vegetables
