How I Wore It.

I did a guest post over at the Lowcountry Artist Market blog about how I style vintage clothes. I focused on the 1960s Rosette Pennington New York brocade skirt and top set that I put up recently in the Inherited shop.

Lowcountry Artist Market Countdown.

A week from today is the Lowcountry Artist Market! I'll be posting all throughout the week about items I'll be featuring there. Lately I've had an obsession with accordion-pleated skirts and plaid. You'll see plenty of both trends among the racks next weekend, but today, I'm showing off two skirts that incorporate both trends!

I love the color palette in this skirt. My personal autumn/winter palette rests solidly in these colors.

Something extra special about this skirt is that it has a double-sided zipper. It's reversible! Two skirts for the price of one!

Tommy Hilfiger's Holiday

I haven't worn/shopped Tommy Hilfiger since probably early high school, but his most recent holiday ad has charmed the socks off of me:

Does anyone else get a bit of a Royal Tenenbaums vibe from some of the younger models? The girl with the side part and sunglasses and the boy with the sweatband are so Wes Andersonian.

A Rainbow of J.Crew: Spring 2011

Have I ever mentioned that spring is my second-favorite season, after autumn? Sigh...

Animal prince.

I'm not generally one who goes for a lot of animal prints, but I think a classic leopard-print coat is something that never goes out of style. I also think it goes great wit other prints...like stripes.

I have been looking around for ages and finally found the perfect jacket:

It's still out of my price range, but I'll be stalking it until it hopefully goes on sale.

I LOVE FASHION WEEK.

All images of Milan Fashion Week by the talented Tommy Ton for GQ.

Military, gray, trenches, denim shirts...looks just as good (if not better) on the men as the ladiez. Also, I hope people keep wearing Ray-Bans forever.

Gilbert & Lewis

I've always had a thing for boy's clothes. Back in high school, I thought I was making some sort of statement by wearing boys' oxford shirts and little blazers from the kids' section of Goodwill (I was obsessed with wearing the shirt from a Boy Scout uniform at one point). I still love menswear details: tweeds, pinstripes, and a crisp button-down. Even though I pretty much stick to lady clothes now, I was excited to see a new menswear line called Gilbert & Lewis (I love an ampersand in a title). They've got a great preppy-with-a-twist line, including gingham and madras (prints you can only get away with if you live in the American South).  The line was designed for their Japanese clientele, so sizes run a little slimmer.

And maybe it's all the time I've spent in this town, but one of those red or blue gingham bow ties would charm the...er...socks off of me.

Whit Fall 2010

I'm a little late to the draw on this, but I had to mention Whit's Fall 2010 line. Stripes, short full skirts, black tights...was this line designed specifically for me?

I'm totally in to...

Hellooooo, Michael Caine.

  • How to Make It in America The main character is a cute guy with good style who wants to make clothes. Need I say more? OK. The soundtrack is all over the place, in a good way. Download a mixtape inspired by the show here (check out the remix of Phoenix's "Rome" featuring Devendra Banhart).
  • Southern Flourish, the latest digital magazine for you to swoon over, has premiered. My favorite Charleston blogger, Olivia, has two articles in the mag.
