Fundays.

Steven came back from Nashville/Columbia on Saturday afternoon, and we immediately launched into having the most easygoing fun we could manage. We started by meeting up with people at Taco Boy. I love spotting David Boatwright's murals all over town, and I especially adore this sort of mixed media mural in Taco Boy's patio. After that, we met up with Elizabeth, Andrew, and Elizabeth's lovely house guest, Caroline, at Bin 152 for some more imbibing. We completely lost track of time there, and barely managed to make it to goat. sheep. cow. before it closed. We got four amazing cheeses and a baguette, which is an ideal dinner, if you ask me. One of our selections was Ewephoria, which is a sheep's milk cheese like Gouda, and it was aptly named, to say the least. If I ever become lactose intolerant, my quality of life will decrease 87 percent. I have charts to prove this. Before we left downtown, we picked up some macarons for the road. With our cheeses and baguette and cornichones, we watched Martha Marcy May Marlene, and now Ashley has been replaced by Elizabeth as my favorite Olsen.

On Sunday, we got completely whacked out by daylight savings, and ended up not getting our biz together until 1pm. We went to our safety spot, Rue de Jean, for brunch and a Bloody Mary. Second Sunday was happening on King Street, and I always use this as an excuse to shop too much. But, whatever. I got some cute pants from it. And other stuff. Oops. Then we met up with Elizabeth and Andrew for another Bloody Mary, this time at Thoroughbred Club. We wrapped up the day with a beer at Closed for Business -- I'll take any excuse to have a White Thai from Westbrook Brewing.

What a weekend.

P.S. Every time I see this gorgeous vintage Mercedes, I am filled with jealousy. It's officially on my Christmas wish list for eternity.

Eat and drink, repeat.

The theme of most, if not all, of my weekends is "eat and drink (and thrift)." Last weekend was no different:

  • Wine and cheese and gossip at Bin 152
  • shepherd's pie at Leaf (not pictured)
  • a Saturday bike ride to brunch at 3 Little Birds
  • vintage suitcase and a cool old drawer curb finds on the way home (not pictured)
  • amazing Ferragamos found at a thrift store (not pictured)
  • delicious ramen at Kanpai
  • a hazy, gray Sunday
  • a boisterous brunch and tasty bloody Marys at the Variety Store brightened things up

A new year and a new year.

So, it's 2012, and as of this weekend, I am 28 years old. This is the first time I have ever been a little bit scared for a birthday. Everyone I've told this to over the age of 28 has told me to shut up, but everyone younger than 28 has nodded furiously with furrowed brows. I am now in the middle of my late 20s, and it's weird. But that's OK! It really is! That's what I've been telling myself in the mirror each morning for the past few days.

On my birthday, we threw a Celebration Party to group together Housewarming, Christmas, New Years, and me getting closer to being middle-aged, and this is a little of what it looked like:

Over my nearly five years here (has it really been that long?), I've met such fun people. It was really neat to get them all together in the same place. I actually probably wasn't that good of a hostess, because I was having too much fun playing Mario Kart and making s'mores outside. Hopefully everyone else had a good evening, because, for me, it was a perfect way to ring in my 28th year.

A weekend through Instagram.

(row no. 1) Maya is tied up and a Saturday morning curb find; (row no.2) alligator warnings and cute friends; (row no. 3) Friend Toad and an eerie tower; (row no. 4) Where the Wild Things Are and Jesus Saves.

Unfortunately (or fortunately) I didn't have my phone on me for a lot of the fun times, but no Instagram can capture the mood you get from the sound of old records over French press coffee and delicious breakfasts and comfortable conversations with good pals.

Weekend adventuring.

In just a few hours, these crazy kids will be coming down to Charleston for the weekend. When C + D come to visit, we rarely have set plans in mind, but, yet, we always manage to have a fantastic time. Mostly because these peeps have a sense of adventure. I can't wait.

All over the internet.

I am all over the internet. Seriously. I love it. I am kind of flaky when it comes to tweeting and all that biz, but that doesn't mean I don't love it any less.

Here's where you can find me in Internetland:

Please feel free to share your Internet social networky names with me if you want to pal around on any of these mediums!

Lowcountry Artist Market weekend

I can't even describe how fantastic this past weekend was. But I'll try anyway.

Cathy and David came into town lateish on Friday and we woke up bright and early to head to the Music Farm to set up our booths. We got to be booth neighbors!

Here are some pictures I borrowed from the Music Farm's album on the event:
David's ingenious lamps made from ink cartridges. His Charleston lamp was the talk of the town.
Cathy's awesome jewelry display and me looking concerned, for some reason.
My mannequin-turned-belts/jewelry-holder.

Seek Vintage! Someone has visibly messed up my scarf pile. I don't know how many times I referenced the end of Romy &  Michelle's High School Reunion ("Let's fold scarves!").
My little vintage nook after it had been shopped a bit.

I think we all had a successful day. Now I think I'm a craft/vintage fair addict. I'm already thinking about ideas for displays and streamlining the look of things for the next one (two words: wooden hangers).

After that, Cathy and David accompanied me to an open house for these cute little condos I'm seriously considering. After some rest and relaxation at home for a bit, we stepped out to Monza for some sangiovese, antipasto, and delicious pizzas and to Closed for Business for an after-dinner drink.

Sunday, Cath and David made a bangin' breakfast and we wandered around King Street. It was especially cool because it was one of those Sundays where they shut down the street to cars and you can walk in the very middle of the street if you want to.

Suede flats were purchased (me), sexy boots were purchased (Cathy), a cute headband was purchased (me, again), and it was, I think, a fantastic day.

Check out David and Cathy's sweet Etsy shop,  Lowell & Louise.

What a fantastic weekend.  On Thursday night, driving into Chapel Hill with the windows down, the air was crisp and smelled like fireplaces, which was perfect, since Chapel Hill always makes me think of autumn. It's is one of those places that always feels like home, especially with the set of friends that live there. The long weekend (plus an unexpected extension) was a perfect way to say goodbye to summer: good food, great company, Broken Social Scene, city lights, chocolate croissants, the most perfect vintage dress I've ever found, Chinatown on the big screen, and so, so much more...However, driving back to Charleston this morning gave me this feeling of exhilaration. It was such a gorgeous day and such a peaceful drive that I briefly considered just continuing south, past Charleston, just to see where I ended up.

The drive made me feel like this:

To-Mor-Row

If this song had existed when I was a 17 year old, I would have listened to it endlessly...Park that car, drop that phone, sleep on the floor, dream about me...

Instead, tomorrow I'm seeing Broken Social Scene at Hopscotch with a blonde babe who knew me when I was 17, talkin' trash under my breath. I wish I could think of better descriptive words than "yay" and "hollerrrrrrrrr" but I really, really can't.

a weekend with C + D + P

This weekend consisted of:

* fantastic friends
* pups playing
* French press coffee
* strolling the farmers market
* shopping adventures and skirt purchases (except David)
* a morning yoga sweat-fest
* meal upon delicious meal
* beach trips
* sing-alongs on the sand
* lots of talking

Needless to say, it was a pretty ideal weekend. I was so busy having fun that I didn't think to take a single picture, so you'll just have to trust me.

A Friday night...

....dim sum and a few glasses of wine with the best friend, then going through my closet and ending up in my prom dress.

There isn't much better than laughing and reminiscing with a lady I've known for over a decade. Tomorrow, we conquer the Bridge Run!

This is my Spring Break.

Today feels like the last day of school before Spring Break. I feel that anxious "Let's just get it over with!" feeling about the rest of the day. In just a matter of hours, my best friend will be boarding a flight to bring her here! Five days of walking, talking, shopping, coffee shop-sitting, dim sum-eating, Ravenel Bridge-running, late night rambling, morning strolling, alley exploring goodness. To me, today is Friday with a 5-day weekend slapped on the back of it.

Happy weekend!

On a blustery day.

Circa 2007.

Downtown is flooded, the rain has no plans to stop anytime soon, and it's supposed to be windy/snowing in NC tonight. If I can manage to fight the weather, I'll really be looking forward to reenacting the photo above this weekend. Does anyone want to be my driver?

Burlington, VT + Montreal

Fog, rain, wind, and delays in Philly started the trip, but MAN was it worth the wait. Bundling up, shopping, snacking, playing, and laughing with your girlfriends is about the greatest thing ever. My bank account is now weeping openly, but I have a lot to show for it...all sorts of things to decorate my wardrobe and memories of delicious meals/evenings.

Vermont:

This is what I looked like a lot. (Photo by Cathy.)

Amanda shopping for veggies at Burlington's farmers market.

They close down 108 mid-October, but people still wander it on foot and hike the trails.

Cathy posing with our snack.

Cathy in the red hat.

The perfect post-bar hot dog.

A Sunday afternoon walk.

The best one.

My new favorite tree.

Chopped rocks.

Autumn colors.

Montreal (I don't have as many pics because I was busy pressing my nose to the glass of H & M and Zara windows.):

Vive la Montréal!

I am.

Painted walls and graffiti covered the Quartier Latin.

Kusmi Tea is my new obsession.

After shopping all day, since the place I wanted to go (Olive + Gourmando) was closed, Amanda and I went to L'Express. It's this really unassuming Parisian-style bistro filled with cute waiters. They bring you a jar of delicious little pickles and mustard to snack on while you wait on your meal. I had the soupe paysanne and croque-monsieur and it was perfectly warming after a chilly day walking around.

After that, we wandered down to Le National to see Dead Man's Bones. It was fantastic, for more than the reason that I was in the same room with Ryan Gosling for the latter portion of last evening. The event began with a talent/variety show of magicians and burlesque and the actual Dead Man's Bones performance was something of a multi-media event as well. Dead Man's Bones is basically attractive boys + Johnny Cash + your favorite childhood haunted house. Accompanied by a local children's choir dressed as "zombie skeletons" the band sang a number of catchy and spooky-themed songs (some odd ones, also). Maybe the best part: a six-year-old girl singing the Nancy Sinatra hit "Bang Bang (My Baby Shot Me Down)". Also, "Pa Pa Power" is such a fun song.

How could you not be entertained?

In summary, I had an awesome trip.
