Cougar Town.
It's my blog, and I can post gratuitous pictures of myself if I want to.
Since Halloween was a week ago, I thought this was a good time to share. I was going for Mrs. Robinson meets Joan Collins.
Fake nails and lashes courtesy of Wal-Mart, earrings courtesy of the roommate, metallic leopard-print dress courtesy of the Cancer Kids thrift store in West Ashley, giant shoulder pads courtesy of the dress.
Not pictured: leopard-print heels.
I love playing dress up.

Hrmph.
Today I'm in one of those hopelessly grumpy moods that not even chocolate and gym-produced endorphins have cured. I can't remember if I've ever posted this, but for some reason, this song always boosts my mood a little bit.
Anyone have any bad mood curers? My next trial will be a hot bath accompanied by a giant glass of wine and a good book.
Here's hoping tomorrow's a bit brighter.

A Manly Autumn.
I'm trying to stop shopping, so I thought I'd look at boys' stuff instead, to stave off temptation. Now I just want to wear boy clothes.

Talk about living life to the fullest...
Seen on Margaret Atwood's Twitter. Yes, Margaret Atwood has Twitter.
The world's oldest living Holocaust survivor (106 years old!) plays Chopin and Beethoven from memory and has such an incredible joy and interest in life and people. Amazing.

Do songs ever haunt you?
limited edition print (of 50) from hunting bears. buy me one. please.
This song follows me everywhere. When I saw blog posts from Mixed Plate and A Cup of Jo on prints of Smiths songs done as vintage Penguin covers, it freaked me out because this particular song hovers in the back of my mind (and often the front) very frequently. I need this. Or at least I want it real, real bad. Apparently prints relating to songs are my thing, lately.

One of them days.
The weather is strange and I feel strange and I'm wearing one of my favorite dresses and listening to dreamy music, sipping hot coffee, pondering why I keep getting crushes on guys from these history books I work on. Men that are probably long dead, but completely charm me, captured in sepia or black and white, young and strong, staring earnestly into the camera with suspenders and bow ties and handlebar moustaches. Heaven help me if I don't always pick the unpickable.

American Skins
At first I was going to say, "This had better be good, because they have a lot to live up to." Then I realized that it looks like the same exact storyline as the first season of British Skins. Womp womp.
I know it's a show for teenagers, but if anyone is ever looking for anything to watch instantly on Netflix, Skins is where it's at.
Worth watching for a charming post-About a Boy, pre-A Single Man Nicholas Hoult, great soundtracks, gorgeous Effy, teen drama, amazing outfits, and teen drama. Also, teen drama.
I will probably give this MTV version a shot, but I'm not feeling optimistic.

Tout va bien.
This song is so dreamy and the music video is so sweet...it makes me kind of sick. In a good way, of course.
(Thank you, Black*Eiffel, for the heads up.)

October thrifting.
I've embarked on a few thrifting expeditions in search of new finds to prepare seek vintage's booth at the Lowcountry Artist Market in a few weeks.
Charleston:
This lace blouse is so romantic. The only part of the whole blouse that isn't semi-sheer lace is the horizontal panel across the front. It drapes so beautifully. I'm obsessed.
This dress confused me at first, but once I put it on, I loved it. I think it will look so cool this autumn, worn with black tights and black knee-high boots.
The first thing I'm always drawn to in a thrift store is anything with beading and/or sequins. These jackets would look so amazing with tight black pants and a simple white t-shirt underneath.
Camel coats seem to be the big fall/winter trend. They're all over every magazine. I accessorized this collarless, buttonless camel jacket with the belt seen below.

I love this color blue, and the dress drapes in such a goddessy way. The gold belt is from a later thrifting expo, pictured again below.
This vintage Emanuel Ungaro silk dress is my favorite recent find. With a pocketed tulip skirt and the most insane shoulders, this dress is not for the faint of heart. But it's incredible, nonetheless.
This blue bean-shaped evening bag is cute and fun.
I call this the Pirate Belt. The hardware brings it to another level.

I love this belt. It looks like reptile scales, but the gold keeps it classy.
I can never stray from stripes.

Animal prince.
I'm not generally one who goes for a lot of animal prints, but I think a classic leopard-print coat is something that never goes out of style. I also think it goes great wit other prints...like stripes.
I have been looking around for ages and finally found the perfect jacket:

It's still out of my price range, but I'll be stalking it until it hopefully goes on sale.

Does this ever happen to you?
You know how you can have a friend for a long time and then one day you look at them differently and all your feelings for them grow really strong and then you fall in love with them? OK, that's never happened to me, but it seems to happen in movies all the time.
However that's kind of the relationship I have with bands. I like them, I appreciate them, and then one day, I hear a song in a certain mood, and it just propels them straight into my heart and I daydream about them and replay their songs over and over.
Anyway, I have always liked and appreciated Ra Ra Riot, but then on the way to work this morning, this song came on and it felt so perfect and right and now I just...I don't know. It makes me feel funny in such a good way.
