My 30th Birthday Soiree

I turned 30 this week, and in celebration, I threw a Downton Abbey/Gosford Park-themed birthday party last weekend.  Nothing beats a group of friends who are amazing sports (everyone showed up in costume!) and many, many bottles of champagne.

A few photos from the party:

2014 and my 30th are going to be a good year. I can feel it.

Celebrate Spring at the Lowcountry Artist Market!

My favorite event of the season is less than five days away! I have been stocking up Inherited's racks  with light and airy nightgowns, and silk tops and bottoms for the impending warm temperatures. I also can't wait to shop the other vendors' tables and eat grilled cheese!

Hope to see you there!

A New Year.

This New Year's Eve, we hid out at home and let a serious party animal entertain us:

(Pip is modeling the past three years of New Year's chapeaus from St-Germain... they're the best)

We made a stop to our favorite cheese shop, goat. sheep. cow., and got a bevy of treats to snack on till midnight.

(Maya brought a lot of hope into 2013... hope that we'd step away from the table and not miss a slice or three of soppressata.)

(Our few guests looked great for the occasion but didn't add much to the conversation.)

We downed our champagne, lit off a few fireworks and called it a night. Besides the fireworks, it wasn't much different than many other nights we've spent at home, but over breakfast, we talked about our resolutions and they've geared us up for taking on 2013, head first.

(New Year's Day calls for a port-infused French toast brunch with Bloody Marys and lots of bacon.)

One of my resolutions was to writewritewrite just for myself and also a little more in this blog, and so I am haltingly, falteringly starting again.

And tomorrow (or, in about four hours, rather), Steven and I will be taking on another of my resolutions!

Happy 2013!

At the Market

The Lowcountry Artist Market was last weekend, and it was so much fun! Talking about vintage all day with fellow enthusiasts of tulle, chiffon and lace gives me quite the rush. Here are a few pictures I managed to snap of Inherited's set-up.

The highlight of the day was selling the amazing red dress (1950s Lord & Taylor!)  on the mannequin to a girl who wore it with all the gamine style of Audrey Hepburn.

Thank you to everyone who came out to chat and shop and try on! You made my day.

Deck the Halls

Despite a super-busy weekend, which included the amazing holiday Lowcountry Artist Market and my friend Gino's second-annual Plaid Party (such a fun birthday theme), we managed to finish decorating the house today. It feels so warm and cozy... I might not take this stuff down after the holidays.

The amazing gold kraft garland comes from Lowell and & Louise

After the decorating, we rewarded ourselves with fondue and Champagne. Not a bad Sunday.

Save the Date: Lowcountry Artist Market, Saturday, December 8

We're less than a month from the next Lowcountry Artist Market! Inherited's booth will be stocked with dresses for holiday parties (and New Year's), cozy sweaters for warm nights indoors, and plaid skirts for classic office style. My collection has moved to two racks, plus suitcases bursting with handbags, shoes, and even a $5 bargain selection.

Below are two of my recent faves: a 1950s cherry red chiffon dress by Jonathan Logan for Lord & Taylor (with the sweetest pink bow detail) and a kelly green coat with mandarin collar, bracelet sleeves, and hidden hook-and-eye closures.

How I Wore It.

I did a guest post over at the Lowcountry Artist Market blog about how I style vintage clothes. I focused on the 1960s Rosette Pennington New York brocade skirt and top set that I put up recently in the Inherited shop.

Supermoon.

Last night's supermoon was quite the visual spectacular. At nearly midnight, the brightest moon of 2012 lit up the sky like dusk. A thunderstorm was rolling in and sporadic lightning flashes popped, adding some extra drama to the sky. Overall, a gorgeous show. Encore, please.

Check out other (better) photos of the supermoon here.

A family visit.

My family spent the past week (my sister's final Spring Break of high school) with us in Charleston. Though I wasn't able to take any days off to spend with them, evenings were filled with family dinners, dusky beach walks, Mario Kart races, and lots of laughing. Even though it's a lot quieter and calmer without the whole brood here, I already miss them.

(Clockwise from top left: a Monza lunch date with my sis and her boyfriend / paparazzi-style shot of my folks strollin' / a sunrise Easter service on the pier at Folly Beach / the Pip doing a somber impression of the Easter Bunny.)

Fundays.

Steven came back from Nashville/Columbia on Saturday afternoon, and we immediately launched into having the most easygoing fun we could manage. We started by meeting up with people at Taco Boy. I love spotting David Boatwright's murals all over town, and I especially adore this sort of mixed media mural in Taco Boy's patio. After that, we met up with Elizabeth, Andrew, and Elizabeth's lovely house guest, Caroline, at Bin 152 for some more imbibing. We completely lost track of time there, and barely managed to make it to goat. sheep. cow. before it closed. We got four amazing cheeses and a baguette, which is an ideal dinner, if you ask me. One of our selections was Ewephoria, which is a sheep's milk cheese like Gouda, and it was aptly named, to say the least. If I ever become lactose intolerant, my quality of life will decrease 87 percent. I have charts to prove this. Before we left downtown, we picked up some macarons for the road. With our cheeses and baguette and cornichones, we watched Martha Marcy May Marlene, and now Ashley has been replaced by Elizabeth as my favorite Olsen.

On Sunday, we got completely whacked out by daylight savings, and ended up not getting our biz together until 1pm. We went to our safety spot, Rue de Jean, for brunch and a Bloody Mary. Second Sunday was happening on King Street, and I always use this as an excuse to shop too much. But, whatever. I got some cute pants from it. And other stuff. Oops. Then we met up with Elizabeth and Andrew for another Bloody Mary, this time at Thoroughbred Club. We wrapped up the day with a beer at Closed for Business -- I'll take any excuse to have a White Thai from Westbrook Brewing.

What a weekend.

P.S. Every time I see this gorgeous vintage Mercedes, I am filled with jealousy. It's officially on my Christmas wish list for eternity.
